Ryan Gander presented Loose associations, a touring lecture first staged by the artist in 2001 and continuously adapted and added to ever since. Performed as a thoughtful and widely ruminative meditation on cultural phenomena, Gander’s presentation of video, images, and sound leapt from such disparate subjects as Klingons to the Barbican Centre to his Great Auntie Deva. Gander wove a narrative that not only revealed – or more appropriately, obscured -his complex working method, but also highlighted his ongoing project of expanding the parameters of artistic discourse.
