Palmer’s practice combines writing, installed audio recording and live performance. The protagonists in her narratives often occupy shifting, capricious worlds that they struggle to comprehend. In this new audio installation we hear what sounds like members of a dysfunctional reading group trying to recall the opening paragraph of an influential piece of twentieth century literature. The source text, in which a character moves between a state of wakefulness and dreaming, is half-forgotten and misremembered by the group discussing it. The work is shown in a room above Whitstable Library, which provides books for over twenty of the numerous reading groups in the town.
