Rachael Squire

Rachael Squire is a politcal geographer and lecturer in Human Geography at Royal Holloway.

Her research deals with questions around territory, the elemental, the sub-marine and subterranean, with current research focusing on experimental undersea living projects undertaken by the US Navy at the height of the Cold War.

She draws on these experiments, known as Project Genesis, Sealab I, II, and III, to unsettle and raise novel questions about a number of concepts within political geography, seeking to flesh out, quite literally, how the concepts of territory, terrain, and the elemental were reconfigured by the Sealab project.
