The sea is in my veins

The sea is in my veins was a new work that drew on the history of exploration. Braithwaite undertook an exercise in avoiding the bends (decompression sickness); diving off the Whitstable coastline in a home-made diving suit fashioned from cardboard and painted with yacht varnish. Part performance lecture, part re-enactment, The sea is in my veins was both a clash of forms and a parody of forms, with Braithwaite weaving his own diving experience into a history of aquatic success and failure.
