Paul Clark, Ear Opener, 2008

Paul Clark
Ear opener: Classical music, Wagner to DJ Spooky

Sunday 11 June 2006
16:00—17:00

Sea Cadets’ Hall

This lecture by composer Paul Clark was a mind-expanding trip, explaining how the big names in avant garde music – Stravinsky, Schoenberg, Stockhausen, Reich, Ligeti – relate to each other and to the worlds of experimental rock and electronica. It also attempts to unpick half-understood concepts in modern classical music – such as serialism, minimalism and atonality. No musical training or prior knowledge of classical music was required to appreciate this musical lecture-adventure.
